Dr. Mayra Spaniol

Experienced, competent and compassionate Psychotherapist with training from Brazil and the UK. Focused in supporting you in finding the necessary tools to improve your life.

About Me

I am an English speaking Brazilian therapist, and I have been a clinical psychologist since 2011, and a researcher carrying out scientific work and publications since 2013, during my PhD at the University of Birmingham – UK, and post-doctorate position at Mackenzie University – São Paulo. I work with therapy in both English and Portuguese.

My approach as a psychotherapist involves my background in science, valuing effectiveness and outcome-focused psychotherapy. Empathy and compassion are also a central focus within the psychotherapy process, where I seek to support you in your process of finding the necessary tools to improve your quality of life.

Individual Therapy

I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and have a short course in Gestalt Therapy. I also have years of work in research and practice with children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder. My core services are Assessment and Online Psychotherapy (CBT) in English and Portuguese. I work with all ages and genders, especially adolescents and adults and the LGBTQ+ community.

Together, we seek to identify and offer alternatives to the patterns of behavior and thoughts that can lead to suffering, finding empowerment and inner strength with a positive approach.

Please reach out and contact me to clarify any questions, I am available for online consultations. Click here for more about my research on online therapy.

“Mayra consistently exhibits professionalism, insight, and eloquence. She has adeptly guided me through strategies to manage negative self-talk and address childhood trauma. Her remarkable memory for even the minutest details about me enhances our sessions, creating the comforting illusion of confiding in a profoundly wise friend. Inspired by my transformative experience, I recommended her to two of my closest friends, who have since begun therapy with her and share my enthusiasm. Our sessions with Mayra are highly anticipated, and we deeply appreciate her dedication and support. Thank you, Mayra, for all that you do!”

C., Australia

“I have worked with Mayra as her patient for some time and I have learned a lot about myself and the way I deal with the emotional aspect. Mayra gave me tools that allowed me to identify challenging situations, to address my feelings considering others and myself too and helped me to gain confidence to move forward and be a better version of myself.”

B., UK

“I started having psychotherapy sessions at the end of last year, she understood me on many issues and helped me with most of them, what she helped me the most was about a lot of insecurity that I had, we worked around several past and ongoing traumas. It was a healing process, the best for sure!!”

R., Brasil

Mayra is very easy to connect with, she is very relatable and she puts you at ease. Her empathetic style, makes it all the easier to open up about what issues one is dealing with. I would recommend Mayra if you are in need of a therapist to help you uncover answers to what may be troubling you.
